Can i tell if scuttle is too far forward? options
I'm wondering if my scutttle was installed too far forward when the car was built, how I can establish this and how much work i'd need to
do to sort it out if it's the case.
Having just had the car painted it's not great to discover the car might have been originally built with the scuttle too far forward.
It only came to light when i went to fit a screen and weather gear.
With the windscreen mounted to the normal position on the scuttle and the side screens hinged off the screen pillar the bottom corner of the side
screen should just touch the rear wheel arch. Instead there is a large gap.
Also when the hood is taped into position at the back edge the front of the hood should be on windscreen top rail, again there is a large gap.
The only way of making the side screens fit at the back would be to move the windscreen back a fair bit (so it's base would be sitting right by
the dashboard). This would also make the hood fit. I'm assured the weather gear will fit the Indy so I'm deducing the scuttle must be
toofar forard.
The first thought was just to move the windscreen further back but this is going to leave almost no room between the screen and the dashboard. Apart
from not haing any room for demisters I'm concerned this could just look plain wrong (I'm open to any thoughts to the contrary).
To mount the windscreen inthe correct position on the scuttle (step) it looks like i'd have to remove the scuttle and bulkhead and refit a
couple of inches further back.
1. Is it structually feasible to do this ?
2. Is it practical to move the nosecone further back or is it's postion pretty much fixed.
This is all; stuff which is realatively easy to check and establish and modify and vary when building a car but a different story all round when youre
dealing with a car that someone else built a few years ago (and you've just had painted).
Any thoughts or advice would be very welcome.

The scuttle and bonnet sit on the tapered part of the frame, so I doubt there is much flexibility in the positioning (i.e. move them back 2 inches and
the scuttle and bonnet will want to overhang the frame).
Did MK supply the wet weather gear? If not I'd suspect that is where the problem really lies.

The scuttle only fits on one place on the chassis, plus or minus a quarter inch. Its tapered, following the chassis lines, so it can't fit that
far forward or it will be too wide for the chassis.

The position of the nosecone is usually determined by the scuttle and bonnet. Provided you have sufficient gap between the nosecone and the front of
the chassis, there is no reason why you couldn't move your nosecone further back. This in turn will reposition your bonnet and scuttle.
Do you have any photos of the scuttle? If so, stick em up on here and we should be able to tell if the scuttle is positioned correctly.

Looks normal to me.. Worth looking at some photos of fitted MK weather gear.. As above the scuttle can only go in one place... At least you have not
got the screen fitted yet so there is scope to jiggle a bit; also remember the screen supports have some width.. Also I don't know the
"offical" place of a real MK screen forward or backward of the lip.. On mine I have a Westfield screen and fitted best forward of the lip,
also made a nice place for hidden de-mist vents and helps stop leaks. The Westfield screen on mine means I can't fit the MK weather gear; it
needs to be custom made!

Scuttle is in the right place, in line with the crease line on the side panel.

Looks right to me!
Screen should go in front of the 'lip' on the scuttle.
Conclusion: your doors/roof are too short!
Just had a thought, it's not that you've got the windscreen too upright is it? Could you tip it back further?
Cheers,
James

Yes I did try tilting the screen quite far over.
My starting point was to hold the screen so the bottom edge of the screen supports were horizontally parrallel with the bottom of the scuttle/ top of
the side panel as this seems to be the standard rake used for most 7 screens. I then tried tilting further backwards from there but there was still a
gap.
Now I know the scuttle is in the right place it looks like I am left with a choice of
A. Fit the windcreen right back on the scuttle, just about an inch forward of the dashboard. Carry on and fit all the weathergear and just accept it
might look a bit different.
B. Argue the case with GBS to get them to take the weather gear back. Keep the windscreen and fit in the standard position then find someone who can
supply a longer hood and doors. (Would look right but prob cost an arm and a leg which i haven't got to spend)
GBS are maintaining they have supplied several sets of weathergear for Indy's with no problem.

So it's not an MK screen or weather gear; like most things it will be approximately correct, but no two versions of the 7 are the same and the
weather gear needs to be very close for a good fit.. Why not use the MK one softop? Price?
