adjusting castor
jabbahutt - 6/6/08 at 10:15 AM

Morning all

Just trying to sort out the front wheel toe/camber and self centering. I've been reading the threads about toe out for SVA and that castor is the greatest force for self centreing.

Would I be correct that turning the mushroom insert adjusts the castor? apparently the more castor the better the self centring.

So for max castor with the MK set up should the offset hole in the mushroom point forwards as per the original recommended set up?

Thanks for any help
Nigel

Do a search!
There is only one way to get the castor right for centering and that is remake your top wishbones.

Yep... I ended up with 2 sets of top wishbones

Yes we are all aware of the short fall in design of the 7 were stuck with it and have to work our way around it and make the best of what we've got, mine handles like a dream on the track and I wouldn't change it, but mr SVA man knows best

You can use the offset mushroom to adjust the king pin inclination but not the caster.

Put the hole towards the inside and for a given camber angle king pin inclination is increased.

Put the hole to the outside and king pin inclination after the camber is adjusted will be decreased.

Increased kingpin inclination will increase the self centrin effect BUT use with care.

Pumping up the front tyres to a much higher pressure than you would normally use say 30 to 35psi instead of 18 to 20 will also help.

Seconded!

Nigel,

Setting your top wishbone as far back relative to the bottom wishbone is the way to maximise caster.
