removing sierra driveshaft abs teeth
eznfrank - 27/3/08 at 10:51 PM

to fit the rear driveshafts from a xr4x4 sierra to rear disc uprights on an indy i need to grind off the teeth on the abs bit on the end? Does that round right? Could explain why hub carrier won't go on properly. How's best to do it? Angry grinder?

Best way to remove the teeth is on a lathe.

I used the angle grinder and a flapper wheel, what the hell you can't see it anyway...

is it possbile to unbalance it if its not done on a lathe?

I did mine with an angle grinder. so long as it is even all round, it won't be out of balance. I did mine so that all the grooves between the teeth were almost but not quite flush. Assuming all the grooves were of equal depth to start off with, the thing will be round when you've done.

how fast do wheels turn? about 100rpm at 70mph? plus the metal removed is only about 5cm from the centerline

got a local machione shop to turn mine down on the lathe think it was £10 cash for the pair.

Is that locost?

I didn't want to risk unbalancing it (assuming Henry Ford balanced them in the first place!!! ).

So I removed metal from the upright instead. Didn't take long with a good half-round file.

Mine fitted fine in the new uprights. Not that that's any help at all if you have the old
