Rad for car engined mk
SyKaTurbo - 16/8/07 at 09:16 AM

What are you using chaps?

The engine is a 1600 16v Vauxhall engine.

I heard the Nissan Micra rad fits nicely but will this be enough to cool my engine.

Should be fine with an electric fan. Mk2 escort also fits after a little fettling.

Or fit what everyone fits for every engine and use a VW Polo one!

From which year, james?

I just used the Sierra one on mine.

It currently has a 1.8 CVH so doesn't need much cooling though.

I used a motorbike fan on mine (Honda blackbird). Works fine. Lighter than a car one too... Can't imagine a 1600 Vaux engine is going to be putting significantly more heat into the coolant than a 1100 Honda engine when it's idling and stationary. When the car's not stationary the fan isn't going to be needed in most set-ups due to the cavernous open front of the 7 design.... And if you're stationary but revving the nuts of the engine your asking for trouble

that price looks good for the Polo rad (cheaper than the GSF price when I bought mine- though they might have come down in price)....

don't forget the fan switch that goes with the rad....

ive got a fiat uon rad, i got two when i build the R1 mini. Not sure if it fits the MK though, not sure on price either.
You can try it though as your a top ender.

LOL Cheers.

The polo one does seem loads cheaper than the Micra one. Is the micra one metal capped?

I'm on a mad part collecting mission to get everything into the garage before the kit turns up and I still have some free cash. Not doing too bad either. Two and a bit weeks to go!

Purchased my polo rad from northern radiators, top service and good price. Rescued attachment rad 004.jpg

Looks spot on! Just ordered the Polo one for mine.

What engine is that bob. Are they carbs or throttle bodies your running?

matt_claydon - 16/8/07 at 01:51 PM

That'll be a Zetec on bike carbs

bob - 16/8/07 at 02:21 PM

Yup matts correct, its an early 1800 phase one with firblade carbs.

I just happened to have a load of black high temp paint so i spruced the old silver top cam cover up, winter mods will be the 2 litre cams and maybe a go at a type 9 gearbox rebuild. (if i get brave)

SyKaTurbo - 16/8/07 at 02:32 PM

Looks cool.

Mine will be running a 1600 16v Corsa GSI engine on R1 Carbs, Mega Jolt through a type9 on SBD Bellhousing.

Really looking forward to getting stuck into it now
