Afternoon
finally got the exhaust manifold fitted to the pinto engine and bonnet cut outs done. I was amazed though at how little space is left at the front
of the bonnet between the cut out and the nose cone.
What have fellow pinto engine owners done for bonnet catches as I'd like a pair that is both SVA compliant and yet asthetically pleasing.
Any photos or links much appreciated. could you also let me know where you got them.
Thanks
Nigel
3 options at least.
a) aerocatches - nice and bling but expenive
b) grp reinforce sva catches from cbs
c) plain old steel spring catches with DIY covers - see my archive on how to make them sva complaint.
(I had 2 pairs of b) but now both sold).
Also Duz quarter turn fasteners (not so simple to fit mind)..

I just used the standard one the MK can supply, there is enough room to fit, with the exhaust cut out.

Dzus unfasten with a decent coin, 2p is favorite. They are completely flush though you would have to think carefully how to get the receiver to work,
it will need a slot in the return fold on the bonnet or make the return fold flat at that place.
If you are worried about getting the bonnet open in a hurry then fit a plumbed in fire extinguisher, if you have a fire under the bonnet opening it
can be the worst possible thing to do. Try blasting an extinguisher through another opening if powder or through the grill if CO2.
Anything else can't be that urgent and another second or two thinking time before diving in could be worth having!

reckon this would pass SVA? i forget what the rule is... is there something about a ball coming into contact with stuff
what about these? would they fit or are they too big? thinkig about locking the bonnet once i have one. too scared of snooping

You will find it very difficult to find a better method than the Aerocatch imo
