Well I've now rivnutter the side pannels, scuttle and that black pannel that the name of evades me (probably due to tonight's Stella and Strongbow mix). All supprisingly went on well, give or take a couple of rivnuts currently taking up resiedence in the frame bathed in waxoyl.

I'm now at the back pannel stage. Just pushing it on, it looks pretty good. A couple of hole saw attacks to get it to fit around the rear wheel carrier.

My question is, does it really only attach via the side diagonals around the rails and the plate at the top behind the roll bar? With the bottom bat being round it certainly can't be rivnutted and even riveting on looks a bit dubious. I could rivet on an ally plate to put rivnuts in, but it seems a little pointless if the side rails and just the interferrence fit will suffice.

Mine's just PU'd and rivetted to the rear diagonals - it's certainly not going anywhere (I've sat on it before now). Once the rear arches are fitted and bolted on they help secure it as well and my plywood boot cover is bolted on all round so probably adds some strength across the top. Once fitted, I filled the gap between the round tube lower rail and the bottom of the rear tub with PU - looking at it now, that wasn't necessary realy though.

Mine is PU'd and beaten around the top bar and diagonals. I did rivet the bottom edge to the underside of the cross member. It is very firmly fixed, I haven't sorted the luggage space yet.

Same as Nick on my Mac#1. Rivetted to diagonals (hidden by rear arches) and PU'd to rear chassis.

Obviously you dont want to beat a GRP back panel, Caber must have used Ali.


I like Hellfires soution for making a neat job of the join between side and back panels.

I riveted mine underneath to the round tube as well.

Yes as above, you may find you ned some small3-5mm spacers between the bottom lip and the round tube, but pop rivets are good.
Much of my car was built on a Stella diet, I found it helped no end with some of the brave moments, like the holes in panels
