Sierra Steering Column
Colnago_Man - 14/7/07 at 01:30 PM

Hello,
Trying to fit my steering column at the minute but I cannot get the spring in the middle to compress enough to place any sort of pressure on the lower thrust bearing. The crush tube/stalk section is push down as far as it goes so the top bearing is sat nicely on the taper.
Am I missing something here? I've attached a couple of pics so you can see the spring is loose on the column.
Thanks

It's a long time since I fitted mine but seem to remember that the steering wheel when fitted pulls the lower section up to compress the spring -- As I said its a long time ago so dont rely on this...

I cant see from your pic, has the coloum got a nut or bolt to hold the steering wheel on ?

If its a bolt then you have the inner coloum from an ajustable coloum and the washer is in a differant place by about 25mm

Yes, it has a bolt on the top...
Oh dear, so I have a mis-match of parts? Which is easiest to get hold of? Another column or another stalk assembly?

Thanks
John
