Steering column

Need to fit another UJ in the column to avoid Zetec oil filter. Any suggestions on how to form new 'pivot' point.

Cheers

I think the accepted method is to use a well secured enlarged rose joint slid over the column, this would provide excellent stability and also retain the articulation for the column!

cant you fit a shorter oil filter ?

or remote oil filter? ... and oil cooler whilst you're at it

Found a Renault filter that 'fits' but needs a bit of a dent (2-3mm in the top) to clear the column. Any thoughts???

Not quite as simple as hitting it with a hammer id suspect.

it would be a bit of a pain to have to remove the steering i-shaft every time you need to do an oil filter change (which i suspect would be regular if the filter is smaller than standard). I guess the 2-3mm doesnt take into account engine movement.

There must be people who have fitted Zetecs into MK's with a suitable fix. Remote housing sounds plausible.

I managed to get away with the renault turbo filter FRAM PH4546 it is close but i shifted the engie over a few mm's to make it a better fit.

I did measure up for a remote filter but the housing is the same size as the renault filter, really if zetecs series 1 silver tops are to be used the tunnel needs to be modded and the engine pulled back a couple of inches. This would cure the problem for sure, also it would make the the gearstick on a type 9 in line with the steering wheel.
It would be interesting to see if the new chassis will make placement easier. Rescued attachment parts0742.JPG

if you mod the sierra box to accept hydraulic clutch release bearing either mondeo or sabb then you can throw away the clutch arm and move the box and engine back up the tunnel to the perfect position
