Handbrake cable alternative

Hi,

Has anyone come up with a lighter weight alternative than the sierra handbrake cable - IMO it's a bit long and fairly heavy.

Any chance a standard bike cable could be used or would it be far too likely to break, and if so, has anyone come up with any suitable replacements for the spring cover on the original?

How about doing away with the handle AND cable, replacing them with a linear actuator and a switch on the dash?

We should probably make the general assumption from this point that I'm a bit of a technical numpty and am actually struggling with several aspects of the simple Indy build!

Sounds like a good idea though - what would I need/where could I get the kit?

Perhaps a linear actuator is not such a good idea after all It will entail fabbing up some bracketry, along with some basic wiring but some sort of strain limiting switchery. They are commonly used in aircraft for pulling on cables and stuff like that ..... and can pull over 1000N so you need to be sure you limit them or they will simply rip out whatever they are connected to

Get the car built & SVA'd first. Then if you still want to muck about with it do it as a winter project.

I just want the plain, simple mechanism, just wondered if anyone had replaced the outer steel cable on the sierra item.

I have noticed that the breather hose from my R1 airbox is about the same diameter, so maybe something along those lines could work...

I have used what I think are two golf cables...
