R1 Engine mounting Still puzzled
mad-butcher - 30/5/06 at 07:14 PM

Hi guys
Still don't know which is the best method of mounting the R1 motor, am I better off having the cam cover running parallel to the top tube as per the blade or having a small gap at the front and a larger gap to the rear

it is better for the crank shaft to be as parallel to the centre line iof the car as possible. small gap at the front, bigger at the rear. You want the smallest angle possible in the UL of the prop. Zero is ideal

Just be careful if you have an injected R1.

Since I got my bodywork I've found out that my thermostat pipework doesn't fit under the bonnet and needs to be remounted elsewhere which is quite frustrating.

Glad I'm not the only one puzzling over that. How have you gone about it?

Didn't realise I had missed comedy hour on here Pleased to report that this evening's little blast was completed with bonnet and filter firmly in place.

Rich
How does your R1 injection engine fit?
I found that the std engine mount possition left the sump a full 2.5inches below the chassis and thus very close to the ground...... I have had to cut my engine mounts out and raise the engine 2inches (still clears the bonnet with the airbox on tho).

Apparently this is due to differnces between the Injected and non injected R1 engines!
