harness bolt query
zxrlocost - 29/3/06 at 10:27 AM

Ive purchased some nice willen kit car harnesses

they only have a hole in the bracket though not a clip

so Ive purchased some 7/16 bolts

question is apart from coverin the nut with a nut cover can I clamp the nut/washer/ harness right up or do the brakets have to be able to move about on the bolt for SVA if so how??

also do I have to put anything on the harness like pads or is it all ok as standard...

ta chris

Mine dont clamp up tight, I used the spacers and bolts from the sierra seatbelts.

You dont need harness pads.

ill give it a go then

I'm pretty sure they have to be able to swivel. Otherwise you'll end up putting all the force in an accident onto just the edge few fibres of the belt (the fitting will never be /perfectly/ in line with the strap). Something you should do for your own peace of mind as well as the SVA inspector I'd say!

Wow...!! This is the first post I read today.. I just got back from the scrappy's and what did I have fall into my pocket...

8 long Seatbelt bolts, along with those all important stepped spacers that allow the nut to be done up tight whilst still leaving the belt clip/bracket free to swivel on the spacer.

Coincidence or what

All cars have the stepped spacers on seatbelts. The belts wouldnt be very comfortable if they did pivot a little.

Talking of seatbelts, do the triangles have to have a cover or just the bolt cap?

DarrenW - 29/3/06 at 03:14 PM

Harnesses need the stepped spacers so they can pivot.

Ref triangular brackets - i put a nut cap on the bolt head and also some u-trim around the triangle bits - fiddly to do, i had to superglue in place.

Cheers for the triangle info....must be a mare to fit and look ugly!

DarrenW - 29/3/06 at 04:00 PM

i got mine to fit OK and yes i guess i do look ugly! Thanks for pointing that out

Seriously though mine only just lasted the test and fell off on their own even though i was going to remove. Superglue leaves an orrible mark as well. Might be a better adhesive to use.

i used a zip tie,was ok for sva.and both indies passed the sva with the harness clamped to the bracket, even tho its probably not the best way to do it. the holes in my harness were only bigger anough for the bolt

zxrlocost - 29/3/06 at 09:02 PM

yes thats like mine aswell the harness hole is only big enough for the bolts and I darent drill it one size bigger that would be stupid
