Hi I am l about to start my winter upgrades, the pinto is out and will be replaced with a Zetec.
Question is, anyone got any pictures of a Zetec in an early Indy chassis ? The engine looks to far forward to me and I don’t see how I can get it
further back due to the bell housing fouling the chassis. I am wondering how the taller Zetec will fit under the nose.
Any info and pictures would be great, cheers.
Is a zetec taller?
From memory, about an inch but I will check it tomorrow.
I have a zetec in a 2006 chassis. Would pics of that help?
When I did my pinto to Zetec upgrade, I bolted the engine to the gearbox and used the engine mounts from MK and lined them up. From memory we moved the chassis plates just slightly to accommodate the new mounts. All in all, done in an afternoon.

It sure would
A while since I built (and sold) my MK Indy now - started building it in 2003.
2.0 Pinto + Type 9 gearbox + MK supplied enging mounts.
From memory the Type 9 bell housing was pretty close to the chassis footwells. To have move the engine + gearbox back I'm pretty sure you'd
have had to modify the footwells to allow clearance and modify the chassis engine mount points to reposition the engine mounts.

You could always remove the starter bulge this what you do on a Westfield.

I have a Zetec with type 9 in an early Indy chassis that was originally built for a pinto.
The gearbox is in the the same place and its won't go any further back. I fabricated the engine mounts by modifying the supplied pinto units. The
intake side meets the pinto chassis plate and the exhaust side needed a new plate on the chassis.
Height of the engine is tight so I adjusted height to just clear under the nosecone. After catching the original Escort sump I ended up with Raceline
alloy sump so ground clearance is fine.
I fitted a remote oil filter setup to allow proper oil filter whilst not clashing with the steering column.
I'll try to take some photos for you if I get home at a decent time.

Hi big wasa
To get mine further back in my hrs I had to remove a section from the starter motor bulge. I just then fabricated an infill section and welded in.
Thanks for the info guys I just needed to here that the Zetec will go in under the body work.
I had looked at cutting the starter bulge but then there are other obstructions. Nothing that can’t be chopped off and moved.
I’ve got a few differant gearboxes to have a look at.
The Mt75 will go back nearly 3” just chopping off a few casting lugs, it’s lighter than a t9, has the electronic speed sensor built in, I have a new
Westfield “kit” with prop, bearing and clutch so no added expense, has a higher torque ratting. On the down side it has a crap first gear ratio and is
even harder to replace than a t9.
I’ve got an Rx8 5spd but that will need an adapter, new prop, and a hydraulic clutch conversion and it’s bigger and heavier than both the above.
Anyway no looking back now.
I widened the tunnel, been ok for my size 9 feet, may be a bit tight for size 12's

I would be interested in your hydraulic clutch conversion. I take it it’s hydraulic anyway ?

Thanks, that's great I can visualise it under the nose.
