Clutch and accelerator cables?
Sloan85 - 16/12/12 at 01:15 AM

Just trying to work out exactly what cables should I be using for the clutch and accelerator on my GSXR Indy? Is it possible to reuse the bike cables and if so, how do I connect the end of the cables to the pedals?

On the bike there was accelerator/decelerator cables from the throttle. Do I need both or do i just use one and use a spring to return to the closed position?

Cheers!

Clutch pedal can be modified to suite the bike cable, depends on the fittings at the pedal end or try speedy cables
Bike carbs, I used a return spring on the carbs and balance that with an opposing spring (lighter pull) spring at the pedal to stop the pedal moving about

Hi
We have an R1 engine in ours & used a Capri clutch cable,
don't know if that would be suitable for yours ?
Had to make a bracket to fit on the engine cradle.
As for the throttle cable I devised a way of gearing it to give more travel
other wise if used as is , its like an on off switch with little travel.
Just put a spring on the return cable.
Good luck
René.

Here's a few sketches which may help.
With regard to clutch , a longer lever would help to control it, see archive.

Hope these make sense.

With regards to bulkhead tubes , turned up some stepped bushes .

I modified and re-used clutch cable.
From memory throttle was too short to made up from a light universal cable, but made return spring mechanism with one end of old cable
Also re-used bonnett release for choke cable....

Does anyone have photos of how these modified cables connect to the clevis that is fixed to the pedals?

I am also wondering how the cable sheath fixes or rests against the tube that goes through the bulkhead. Does anyone had photos of this too?

Cheers!

Thanks for the info René, very helpful.

On my Mk Indy (Blade) I have a brass inset that pushes into that tube. It has a thread in the middle which the outter cable screws into and therefore giving you some adjustment like you would get on the clutch cable handle on a bike. Sorry no pics but could take one at the weekend is you still need it..

Just like mine.. However those little grub screws!!! Thats way i lost my clutch one day
My quick repair (and its still hold) was to pull the cable thru more and also backed it up with a cable clamp.

And you need front and rear stops!
