silvertop zetec in my indy
lotusmadandy - 15/7/09 at 02:03 PM

Guys,

I am building a 1.8 silvertop to go in my indy.my question is this, will i need to fit a remote filter
to the engine to clear the steering shaft or will i be able to fit a shallow oil filter and still clear the shaft.
What have you guys have done to overcome the steering shaft problem.
Thanks

Andy

i put another uj in and welded a support of the chassis for it (saw it done on a tiger) also i had to put an idler in on the alt belt to take it out of the way with the smallest altenator i could find. the clearance is small but clearance is clearance.mite be a pic in my archive

Depends on the configuration of all the sum of bits.... you worried it'll be like mine?

Mondeo oil pump is different to the Escort one I had in mine so filter is at a different position.

Some say the renault GT/Turbo short oil filter is not the correct thread, actually its true but i do not tighten mine up till my fingers bleed and have no issues after two years of running the zetec.

FRAM PH4546

I looked at a remote filter but found the remote for the engine no smaller than the small oil filter.

I think jonesier has the correct idea with the extra UJ. Rescued attachment parts0742.JPG

Yeah another short one is MOTAQUIP VFL 344 thats what i have on mine. Think it may be a tiny bit longer that the one in the pic above.
