CA18 locost owners please look here

Hi guys
I assume you would have given this a look if you have built a locost with ca18de/det.
Im building a locost with the 1300 kent frod motor/driveline from an escort in mind as i have it all but i have also aquired a ca18de and box.
I havnt gotten to the point where i can test fit the engine to see how the g/box tunnel will be like so just want to ask a quick q.
If i built the chassis to the specs of the locost book, does the g/box fit without it being so cramped?
Also wanting to know who has also done the fit so i can check out their pics for some inspiration.
Many thanks
Chris

I seem to recall that member Snoopy has a CA18 in his car (probably MK chassis, not Locost ) and he might be able to advise if you e-mail or PM him

I am putting a CA18DET into my MK-alike Deman, with an extra rail on top for strength. It and the transmission fit well - don't know what car it came from; got it from an jdm importer. No cutting of the frame.

Should be scooting around scaring the crap out of everybody by next summer.

Hi vorn.
Good to not be the only NZ member on here. Where abouts in NZ are you from? Im up here in Auckland.
How far are you on the locost? Just looking for some photos of the 5speed silvia (ca) box in the tunnel for how close it is.

RK, please excuse my ignorance but how does the trans tunnel in your "MK-alike Deman" compare in size to the book locost?

Cheers guys

Cheers

It's virtually the same. The MK is rounded on the front, where the trans goes, and mine is more square, but that's it.

Aww bummer, hoping you were in Auckland. Any more photos of the box fitting in the tunnel? Also any issues with extra height of the motor compared to the escort engine?

Thanks RK, should be good then. Im leaning more towards the ca now days, for that extra kick over the kent engine

Actually i just found the pictures of the engine in the chassis of yours vorn. Looks really good. So no tunnel problems what so ever? What irs setup is that? Almost looks like silvia.

No major problems with the tunnel , I have 105mm clearance from road to the sump , so the motor is high ! I will add 25mm on the top rails to lift iup sides and it will have a big scoop on the bonett.
The rear end is from a MX-5 , I had the whole subframe in the car to start with , but it took too much space . I have made new mounts for the MX-5 arms and removed the subframe
Had my rolling chassis inspection last month and went through no worries.
Any photos of your build?

Do you have any pics of your diff in? I am curious to see how it compares to mine.

The pic is showing the frame upside down.

It now has all the susp on and the engine in and is right side up (I think; I haven't seen it for a while cause its in another city being built).

when you say add 25mm to the top rails do you mean raise the engine bay height or the bonnet height?
Nothing interesting to see in my build photos. Havnt had a lot of time at all to work on her so its really just basic book frame.
