Am i missing something ? what about the weld if that is what it is how thick is the alloy ?

yes is its alloy foil to 1.5mm sheet but have welded it to 10mm thick aswell

I use a cheap mig to weld ally quite a lot on my build.
The secret is a fast wire feed & thorough prep. & cleaning

The resulting weld is no where near as pretty as a tigged one, but if you are dressing the welds as I have above anyway, what does it matter?
