bending CDS tubing
Hello guys!
I've been looking for someone who can bend the 50mm CDS tubing to make the rollbar on my car (I need a specific width/design so I can't
buy a pre made one).
I've phoned a few rollbar companies up but their prices seem very steep (cheapest was £180+VAT+postage) . I've tried a couple of tube
bending specialist in my area but they're either unreliable (ie never phone back with details I've requested and generally ignorant) or
they only want to do mass production runs
Any suggestions?
Thanks

You could hire a hydraulic pipe bender...
I did my roll bar with one of these - cost me around £20 - £25 for a day.
Just take care to use the correct-sized formers when you do it (they're usually labelled for the standard-sized tubes' inside
diameter. )
...and try it out on an offcut first, until you get the hang of the way it works!

Me and a friend had a couple done at a firm at Darley Dale near Matlock. I had to wait till they set the machine to do 50mm, they make custom chassis
for 4x4s but they did us 3 roll bars for £30 each in 3mm wall 50mm CDS with a piece for a crossbar. These were to fit the standard book chassis and
were done with a 7" radius bend so they didn't kink on the corners. If you are in the right area you can find someone to do most of the
stuff you want at the right price eventually.
yours, Pete.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Hayzee, I'm in Blackburn, Lancs (a bit far from you). Thanks for the offer anyway.
I've considered using a pipe bender but have heard it's difficult to bend 50mm OD/ 2.5mm wall thickness CDS tubing without creasing it.
Is this true, or is there just a technique to it?

That would depend on the bend radius and the method being employed to bend the tube - tighter radi are harder to do without creasing.

I had custom cages in Northants make mine for me they charged £140 quid for all the material and the bends for a complete racing roll cage ie two
hoops, diagonals, braces the front hoop with multiple bends. I think that included delivery as well
Kind regards,
Darren

Hi Rob,
Absolutely love your ali/(stainless?) panelling!
Is it all done with one sheet? Or just neatly joined?
Cheers,
James

Well, James, that are 3 parts joined together at the arches. It was a pain in the ass!!! It costed me 3 days to bend and hammer the alloy around the
rear end!
