Will this cortina-axled setup work?
Hi,
I'm getting the preliminaries sorted for my build and thought I should just check some things out with this forum.
I would like to build a Locost with the following setup:
'Book'chassis (well, mcsorley anyway)
Mk3 cortina back axle
2000e gearbox
1660 crossflow
mk3 cortina front hub assembly
I would then make each of the front wishbones around 2" wider (obviously this will be carefully measured during the build) to match the rear
axle.
Would the above setup work and would it handle well?
Which steering rack should I use, mk3 cortina or escort?
What would be the biggest/widest wheels I could fit for fast road use without messing up the handling?

If you're going to use a wide rear axle, why not make a (McSorely or GTS) +4" chassis to go with it so the proportions of the car are kept
simmilar? Narrow body sevens with stupidly wide rear arches look horrible (IMO).
Either way you will need to use either the Escort rack or a cut down sierra rack. The Cortina rack doesn't fit the standard chassis or even a
+4" one very well.

What's that smell?
My chassis is Locost width with a 4" wider track.

MIne is locost chasis with cortina axle aswell. Makes my wheels sit just right in the arches with 38 offset.
As for the wishbone length i dont see how it would make alot of difference.
Why do u want the wheels to sit inline?? They dont look bad as they are...

My Formula27 uses Cortina rear axle and Cortina steering rack.
All sits nicely proportioned for me!!
Recon rack was a bitch to get hold of but got one sorted now.
Summer's here!!!!

They look fine from the front, I just hate the view from the rear with massive arches which are only half filled by the tyres, just looks wrong IMO.
