16v in locost chassis.
Hi there. Has anyone with a 16v (xe or zetec) in a locost chassis. I want to know where to move rail R to. Which is the support that goes from the
firewall area to the top side rail. Ive been told to chop them out and move back so they are alot shorter. Just wanna make sure before i do it..
ps i have a zetec and 2 R rails in a luego locost.

I would wait until I'd finalised the engine installation and then see where they will fit

see my archive, i have left tube r in its standard place and put another tube in on the other side!
look under engine positioning photo's, engine is an xe. also checkout stu 16v and nsdev's archives, oh and skippad, and billy 
Ned.

Who on earth by? 
If you look at the FEA work done by some of the guys you'll see how important this rail (and it's twin on the other side that you should
be adding) are to the torsional stiffness of the whole engine bay area of the chassis.
Get the engine first then work out how to mount it with *both* R rails in place!

Interesting. Going by neds piccies it will fit with them there. The thing that concerned me is the manifolds mainly the inlet.
I think ill try my engin in when my mounts finally arrive and see whats what.
I nicked this from garage19's archive.. No r tubes..

A single Y brace down one side of the engine bay is better than a short R tube.
A double Y brace is very good.
A double tube R (one on each side of the engine bay is best of all but most builders report that this won't fit though Caterham manage it.
Check the picture in my pictures section or read kitcaranalysisv2.doc in the files section of locost7.info (remember the "7" as there is a
different site under "locost"!).

I have a full diagonal both sides of the engine bay on my locost. I have a std Stuart Taylor "race" chassis, and I have welded bush tubes
on the opposing side of the bay from the std diagonal, and made a removable diagonal for the other side.
This should help chassis rigidity, and I have made the tube fit so its "top" is level with the chassis top tube's
"bottom", so that the exhaust manifold can go clear over the top of it for a bonnet exit.
On the inlet side, don't worry as long as you don't plan to use the std XE inlet manifold (this will foul everything and isn't worth
thinking about!). If you use carbs or throttle bodies, they will poke out happily through the bonnet, well above the chassis rail.

Here's one pic. as you can see the tricky bit was getting clearance between the bellhousing and the clutch master cyl!!!
Chassis diagonals are no problem!

Here's a photo of an engine bay with the R tube modified into a Y-shape as mentioned by cymtriks above.
