AGM WLR V12 - Update March/April 2011

Description
Description

Well, I admit it has been a while since I have last been on here but there is now light at the end of the tunnel. A major delay in the build has been the fact that my garage was burgled and stripped of all tools and a considerable amount of the car which has had to be replaced..... inluding wheels ..... ......although they caught him....which was nice.

I`ve moved the car to a more sensible area which is out of sight and away from any kind of housing estate

The wheels are now larger, 10" (285`s) wheels from a Mercedes SL55 AMG and each wheel has a tyre pressure monitoring system (pressure and temperature). I have replaced the bearings all round and I have relocated the alternator to the opposite side of the engine. The prop shaft was custom made by Dunning & Fairbank and that will be in this weekend, along with a brake bleed. The exhaust was fitted either side and now the oil cooler is a permanent feature.

The steering which will be a nightmare is being done at the factory later this month along with some additional strengthening and the body...... I`ve booked off time from work to spend a few days with Alan from AGM kit Cars for the last big push this/next month.

The electrics are being done inside in the warm and are not far off being finished and ready to go with the car for the body fit.

......Still a long way to go ..... but I`m relieved I'm this far

If you fancy coming over and helping with the megasquirt (noticed you are running a V8 on MS) then you can defiantly have a go

That is quite scary! Bet it'll sound awesome.

I hope the chassis/suspension are strong enough for the amount of torque its going to get once the tyres are warm.

They are 8 pots from an E55 amg .... They were a good price..... I cleaned, painted them and as they are made by Brembo I have added Red brembo decals in place of the AMG logo's. The brackets are being machined as we speak. It was an interesting engineering exercise to get mercerdes to match ford fitment.

Thanks it's a cosworth T5, with a granny 3.62 LSD. Ive run the numbers and with those wheels and if the engine gets anywhere near 7000 rpm it should top out somewhere near 200mph...... Brown trousers time

Too be honest... Probably not. Im sure I will have to touch them up with red enamel at a later date.

Although they are a big piece of aluminum and should dissipate a lot of heat.

I know it's different bodywork but if the aerodynamics are anything like as bad as a 7 then there's no point trying. With 450bhp Hicost can get his to about 150mph if I recall correctly. Assuming you can't get to 200mph anyway, you might as well alter the gearing to get you higher acceleration.

Anyway, how good is the WLR aero design anyway? As I wouldn't want to see you doing a Mark Webber at Le Mans!

Brilliant car anyway. Can't wait to see it finished!

Cheers,
James

Thanks ..... The aero is much better than a 7, remember 10% of the drag from a 7 comes from the headlights and a 7 has exposed wheels. The basic wlr comes with a flat bottom and side pods to scavenge air away. It's basically a lemans car/can-am and they have no issues with aero and top speed.

I have a few nice aero features which I'm working on but I don't want to spoil the surprise
