Pedal box
Bacon2002 - 9/9/07 at 08:28 AM

Hi,
I am looking for a pedal box, does anyone have any advice.
Ideally I am after an adjustable box with twin brake cylinders, cable clutch (type 9 gearbox) and cable accelerator.
I'm not sure which is better floor mounted, top mounted or back mounted?
Thanks,
David

A lot of people have used these.

Got mine off fleabay - £55 plus postage. There are a few companies doing them - I think mine were from Optimum Balance Products.

You can get both cable and hydraulic types - just state which you require when ordering.

Mart.

GTS do them

OBP do them with the throttle pedal either top hung or all floor mounted. The choice is yours. I have used one and for the money they are excellent.

I think Rally Design may do pedals.

That new Haynes Roadster book has full details of a fabricated floor mounted pedal box in it.

Worth noting that the Optimum Balance Products design can be converted from cable to hydraulic clutch with a different pedal and pivot shaft which they are happy to supply separately. Maybe useful if you are ever planning to upgrade to a different engine and box.

They also now do a top mounted pedal box, but it's vastly more expensive for some reason.

MikeJR,

The OBP floor mounted pedal box is the one I have been looking at.

For some reason my GTS Panther chassis has an RHS bar horizontally across the front of the drivers foot well at approx 125mm off the floor of the car.

The OBP pedal box says it is 130mm high which is a possible/probable problem for me if I want to mount it properly agains the end panel of the foot well.

I wish I could just buy something that fits without having to "modify"/bodge it in.

Cheers,

David

David:

Doesn't your chassis also have three brackets in the footwell which are drilled for the horizontal pedal pivots ? Mine does. That might also cause you grief with another pedal set.

BTW, it wasn't Rally Design I was thinking of, although they may well do pedals in view of their close relationship with GTS, it was Car Builders Solutions who show a pedal set in their ads.

Macbeast,

You are quite right, it did have pedal brackets welded in, I have now removed the offending brackets.

GTS were meant to provide an adjustable pedal box with the kit, they didn't, but as you say I did have some welded in brackets.

Shame they forgot to welding in all the seat belt mounts at the same time.

By coincidence I went to GTS today and manage to get some small parts and return some defective ones, but unfortunately Darren was not in. The guys I spoke to were very helpful and understanding. I got the impression they are used to people not always getting everything on time.

Cheers,

David

David

Did you get the seat belt boss that I was going to ask about tomorrow ?

Bacon2002 - 10/9/07 at 07:05 PM

Macbeast,

Sorry I forgot to say, yes I did thanks.

They gave me two seat belt bosses, a couple of stainless steel suspension inserts and M18 half nuts for the top ball joints.

If you could ask Darren to give me a call though, I only need a few things now and then I'm sorted.

Cycle wings
Cycle wing supports
Pedal box (yeah right)
Replacement/modified uprights

Send my regards to guys at GTS, they are really helpful.

Cheers,

David
