IRS setup on wide chassis (+442)
ashtal - 29/7/07 at 06:29 PM

I want to know exactly what im doing when i start welding my 442 chassis together. My doner is a 3.0 v6 vauxhall omega with a lsd. This will be used in my IRS. I have found a bloke who makes a complete irs setup so i only need to make fabricate the chssis to fit.

Has anyone got any pics of an irs setup on a 442 ?

Also what else do i need to add the the 442 as the design does not look like a complete chassis ? Rescued attachment c6c0_1_b.jpg

Interesting choice of donor, is it the Mv6 version?
Can't help with IRS pics although it has been done b4, try the search and you should find some info, I think there are cad plans floating about for it as well.
You could have a look at the new book for IRS info as well, should be transferrable to the 442 easily enough.

The 442 plans are certainly missing the suspension bracket locations, and I think the transmission tunnel is missing too, but they are easily transferred from the book.

Hope that helps

Cheers
Alex

Mine isn't strictly a Locost or a 442, but here is what I've done to accomodate a '92 Toyota Supra IRS. Still have to fabricate a bottom wishbone as the Supra used a multi-link setup that wasn't really going to work for my application.[img]http://locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/a596926-DSCN3317[1].JPG[/img]

I just love the chair mate.

It conjures up all sorts of images in my mind.

My chassis was clamped to a bench so I sat on a seed tray.

I admire the "Drawing is only a guide" approach.

The engine is a 4-litre Lexus V8, attached to a Supra W57 gearbox with a custom bellhousing.

I've got a Triumph Spitfire seat to replace the domestic item!

The motor takes up lots of space. Luckily, I don't want to run power steering, becuase the pump had to come off to fit the motor in! The whole car is a bit bigger than a regular Locost, and I borrowed a few dimensions from the 442 plans. Rescued attachment DSCN3312.JPG

I put the Matterati on its wheels for the first time on Saturday.
Admittedly, there are no front springs or rear coil-overs yet, so it's sitting on blocks, but at least, it looks a little bit like a car.

Matty Dog - 5/12/07 at 12:24 AM

The rear lower wishbones were a joint effort between some blokes in my club and myself.

I still haven't worked out how I want to mount the rear coil-overs, as this is a pretty high-stress area.

Good Pics....

Screams VIENTO to me..

Wonder if any of the Viento body / nose cone will fit. But would be a long way to post it to NZ.

Looks like its going to be fun to drive.

My car is based on / inspired by / shameless copy of this:

Which is a one-off built in the states in the late 1950's called the "Troy".

CHRIST!!!! An oversized Viento

That looks nice.. and the chassis is coming along nicely.

Best of luck with it.

Geoff

Can I ask if you're using the front uprights?

Cheers
