I’m having difficulty finding leg room in my little car with big engine as not much space for, steering column, bias pedal box, exhaust manifold which all need making or adapting to fit and bulkhead. I have tried a few bucket seats and not much success until tonight when I’ve borrowed a Kirkey alloy race seat, this gives me lots more space for not only leg room, but also the gearbox tunnel. Can anyone advise me as to whether these seats are ok for mot with correct installation and back support also has anyone had there car MSA log booked with these seats as I hope to do the odd hillclimb. I think I will be in sports libra class and believe I wont need fia in date seats for this. Cheers in advance, Jacko.

Those seats are CANADIAN, but designed and made for the drag strip. If so, they should carry some form of homologation which should be acceptable for MOT?

As you are changing (modifying) the chassis though, wont you need an IVA?

its on original chassis with new space frame/cage bolted to it.with original bodywork sat on top. its a cracking project. but i was also unsure of the iva situation. as far as im concerned it will not need iva. and i know jacko is hoping the same!

Hi, Yes a bit of a challenge to say the least. I don’t want to open the IVA can of worms, but we have retained the original chassis, front and rear suspension type, wheelbase etc so hope it scores enough points to remain the original car. I did work it out about a year ago and it’s all in the interpretation of the rules. Put it this way, its going for MOT when its done. By the letter of the law any escort for example with a modified gearbox tunnel should need IVA, but all the rally chaps don’t worry. “Its all original honest” at worst it will just have to be a track car. Hi we have kirkey seat in race car and it log booked fine for hillclimb class 3g

I've got Kirkey Prodrags in my locost (6ft4 so legroom was a problem) and passed MOT and SVA fine with them.

you can get narrower seats than them anyway jacko.
check out the intatrim range and jk composite, or westfields padded race seat, ive had all of them in various cars and fit ok

They are also made for many forms of racing including road racing and are designed to be floor and bulkhead mounted.

The seats are made in a small town outside Ottawa and sold mostly to the excited states of america.

I’m off to NEC next Saturday to autosport show so will have plenty of choice regarding the seats and other bits I need. Good to know the Kirkey seats are ok. Thanks.

I gave up with the Kirkeys, loved the seats just couldnt make them fit. Biggest problem I was going to have was access/egress the seats over the door bars, due to the seats chest wings. I did consider cutting the wings off, but then the cab was really tight on space anyway. It looks roomy in the picture, but you cannot get your head forward enough to clear the seat, it was bad enough with the screen out.....

Now got a pair of Intratrim seats in place, so a lot lot smaller.


I bought mine at Autosport from one of the autograss suppliers, good show price ! just consider the seats like the drag cars with no chest wings.


I saw them in a Kitten this summer, Peter Beardmores old V8 Kitten is up near me.

I will be having door bars also and the Kirkey is a struggle without the bars so thanks for the advice.

MSA etc should be fine. Chris at ZCars uses them in his race car.
