Round tube chassis sizes
balidey - 31/7/09 at 10:38 PM

I am considering making a round tube chassis. And yes I am fully aware of the pros and cons, and I don't want to start any long debate. Thats been done several times
I have searched and found the main threads that discuss the use of round tube, but I can't see what diameter and wall thickness people have used.
So can someone thats used it please tell me what they used?
many thanks,
Steve

I made the floor frame of mine from 1" 16swg box tube, the bit you nail and glue the Ali floor to.

The rest is all 1" 16swg round tube for the main frame with 3/4 16swg tube for diagonal bracing and transmission tunnel.

I popped in additional diagonals and welded 18swg sheet in a few vital areas.

The frame is built around the engine in the middle, as its a BEC dragged this into the passenger footwell for better weight distribution, and made the drivers footwell wider.
