Hi all...I'm running 2 hand brake cables - 1 to each drum on my escrot live axle. Thanks to an earlier post I've nowsorted the cable routing
and handbrake connection but have now discovered the handbrake actuator (link) on the offside drum hits the panhard rod bush after only approx 5mm of
movement. See photo. Any ideas on how to solve this?
Thanks.

Two options.
Change the drums, are they from a mk1 ?
rotate the back plates out of the way and redrill the four mounting holes.
Yes...I'm pretty sure they are MK 1 Escort.
Is it ok to rotate the back plates? I would need to rotate clockwise by about 45 degrees for it to work.
mine.
I stood and pondered mine for about a week before getting on with it.
Why not cut that T shape bit of the lever ? that should give you more room ?
That's made me feel better....I thought about cutting the T part off but the direction of the pull means the clevis pin still hits the panhard
bush. Any chance of more photos of your setup? I note the welded bracket for the cable anchor....I'll probably need to do the same.
Thanks for all your help.
Cheers.

Try swaping the drums around so the levers point down and not up ?
Hadn't thought of that.....how hard is it to remove them from the hubs??
undo the four bolts and pull the drive shaft out. swap them around and bolt them back together.
It can be hard to get the shafts out.
I think that's the answer as the brake cylinder is at the bottom currently. Should be at the top of the drum (I think). Reversing them would
achieve this and give me clearance on both sides of the car. Anything I need to be wary of when removing the drive shafts?? Any tools that might
make life easier??
Thanks a again.
Matt

If you can get a slide hammer the shafts come out dead easy.
Took me 20 mins to do both sides.
Make sure the leading edge of the shoes are correct way around when finished.
half shafts are a bugger, I bought a slide hammer and it made life SOOO much easier!, if room is tight in your garage then you need to move the car on
the jack which can be tricky.
Mine is the narrowist single garage in the north west and I managed it with a bit of dodgy manuvering!
if you are considering changing diff ratio now is the time to do it!

Thanks both...I'll let you know how I get on.....off to find a slide hammer now.

What cables & length did you use & where did you get them?

Bit late coming to this thread - but I rotated my backplates, about 45 degrees.
Don't take it too far, as it'll put the brake servos at an angle that will be hard to bleed.
Hi David,
Think the drums are actually on the worng side and need to be swapped over....hopefully no need to rotate. See pics.
Thanks,
Matt
On full bump I will need some kind of braket to hold it clear of the axle.
I only got that far last night
I routed my cables (alegro) over the top of the horizontal tube and they attach to a piece of strip with a couple of holes in it.
This will means that the pannel on top of the transmission tunnel will need tapered up at the back to ckear the cables, but that should be easier than
trying to route the cables past the diff lower down.
