Hi guys,
I have the engine fixed on the top mounts of my rocket chassis and the engine sits flat and level
I have had to make up some support brackets to link up the bottom (torsion) mount to the chassis which was easy enough with a bit of thought and seem
very strong. My problem is this...
the engine doesn't sit square in the chassis which can be seen best by looking at the halfshaft next to the back chassis rail.
as a result the drive shafts are at different angles... will this be ok???

arrrrr how do you make pics fit on the page
run paint (you can type mspaint.exe from the run option on the start bar).
open up the picture and select image, then resize / skew.
Hit save and bobs your uncle.
(there are more complicated packages out there & under XP you can even get a resize option on the right click but everyone has mspaint.exe on a
windows system. If you're running unix, look up gimp)

Could you post a pic showing the whole engine and both mounts so we can get an overall view of it. Ie not so close.

I thought the whole point of CV joints was that they can run at all sorts of angles. I wouldn't think the slightly skewed angle of the engine and gearbox would cause a problem.

i dont think its anything to worry about, however if its as easy to put it right, then its worth doing just to make a neat job if it.
if its any reassurance my rayburn is slightly higher and more forward on right hand side. when the rear cover is on its not noticeable

Pretty certain it will work fine as it is....but it will bug the hell out of you until you correct it....not much help but that's usually the way it goes..
If you were to look at most cars horizontally then they would all look like this so not an issue, does it look correct No.
I don't really know, its not off by alot but
its like you say, if to my mind its not perfect it will bug me
ill get some more pics and pop them up tomorrow (iv sent some pics to mev for stuart to look at so he can tell me if im doing something wrong)
the top mounts are set and there is no adjustment in them so if they are wrong the mistake has been made during welding.
ill get some pics up of the top mounting points and where they are welded to the chassis so you can see how it makes use of the standard ford mounts.
i think the 1.7 has the same rubber/metal mounts as the 1.6 (and if you need any i have a set spair
Id speak to mev. I wouldnt have thought you would have to extend that lower mount. Id say that top mounting is wrong.
It would work fine as it is though.
From what I've seen MEV enginering is very good, such that I doubt they would have built in such an issue.
Def spk to them, I doubt they'd be expecting you to make angle iron brackets to hold the engine in?
The angle brackets for the lower mount is in as advised by mev...
you can put either the zetec or zetec se engine in the back and there is also 2 types of gearbox that ford have fitted to the engines. sometimes a
combination of engine/gearbox leaves the bottom mount sitting to low and it will not fit the chassis... this is what i had so i called mev and they
sugested a support bracket.
There is a good build diary of a rocket on line and you can see where he has taken an angle grinder to the lower mounting point and re-welded it at a
better angle.
i can't weld so braket it is... seems solid.
