Well I went to Brands today.. Even managed to get out onto the track!.
It didnt rain, and I had a good time. Only saw one other lister there. The lass from Norhtampton with her dad and they have the Black Viento, sorry... names are not my strong point.

I got out in a Suzuki GSXR1000 engined MK Indy.
Quite impressed, but not as much as I thought I was going to be. Definately a bit quicker than my Viento but not as much as I had expected. Still, it was a good experience, and worthwhile.

Well Its off to SantaPod tomorrow. Its a Run What Yer Brung day. May even put the Viento down the strip just to get some performance figures.

Don't forget, the added weight of a extra person,80 to 100kgs,realy plays havoc with a BEC'S power to weight ratio, when your on your own its a different story, also brands is a real power circuit, not realy best suited to show off the firtues of 85ftlbs of torque

Snetterton is a power circuit and the MK was the fastest round there. Well it was when i was in it

Scared the poo out of me!!!

80-100Kgs... I bloody wish!!!

128Kgs... is more like it

Me and my 19 yr old Son.. together we weigh nearly 255Kgs thats about 40% of the total weight of my Viento

The MK still went very well even with me in it. I appreciate it relies on minimum weight maximum revs to deliver its performance.

Now If I lost a few store, I would get a large BHP per Ton power increase for no extra money... How about that for the cheapest power increase in history

Danozeman - 15/10/06 at 09:44 AM

Dam it I have been in Devon for the week and got back last night. Didnt realise it was brands this weekend. I would have came that way back

I really wanted to go aswell.

Quite a claim... !

It's been interesting for us comparing the Fireblade and the Duratec Toniqs - very different experiences.

Just in my opinion!
Not wanting to start anything.

INDY BIRD - 15/10/06 at 08:34 PM

Would agree some what with jim @ toniq,

it is quite a claim and depending on your budget will depend how quick you can go.

but as i learned a lot is down to the driver i have seen better drivers in less powerful cars kick arse, even though i love my indy i know it is not the fastest out there and thats because i need to improve my skills its not the cars fault,

Was impressed with your toniq cars something very different and performed well andy at AB p[erformance has also been saying good things about the car so well done.

see you at the next track day?

matt.c - 15/10/06 at 08:41 PM

Think this has been taken the wrong way!! When i was taken round the track in the MK we over took as far as i can remember most of other cars and were not over taken.

Thats what i meant!

Didnt realise it was going to cause such a problem!

But everyone will make up there own minds when they get in the cars.

INDY BIRD - 15/10/06 at 08:47 PM

not a prob for me matt you are right in some respects who was driving the car if it was paul or steve they are superb drivers ie scare me so you would be overtaking most people,

as long as you have fun thats all that counts im sure you will when you get on the track.

good luck with any future build,

matt.c - 15/10/06 at 09:02 PM

Cheers INDY BIRD.

ayoungman - 16/10/06 at 11:56 AM

The two Toniq R's looked lovely in the flesh. Here's a couple of pics Rescued attachment DSCF0032.JPG

mandbsheldon - 16/10/06 at 03:44 PM

Which one went BANG?

Leigh

wilkingj - 16/10/06 at 04:59 PM

As for the MK Indy's the Suzuki GSXR engined one was their works cars, I believe the blackbird and ZX12 were privately owned and their owners were not thrashing the arse off them! Works car goes BANG... MK pay to fix it. but not the privvy owned ones!.

I wnet in the GSXR, and he thrashed it 10-11k rpm ALL the way round.

It went well even with me in it!!

mandbsheldon - 16/10/06 at 05:05 PM

I think one of the Toniq R's went BANG, just wonderd which one it was, BEC or CEC?
Leigh

INDY BIRD - 16/10/06 at 05:38 PM

correct geoff me and my brother owned the bird & 12 we gave tham a good run out but didnt cane the arse of them as one had to be driven home and one trailered its a good 60+ miles drive so needed the car to in a condition to drive,

still they performed well all day reliability is the key cant have any fun if it goes bang???.

i think the fireblade toniq may have gone as late on in the day around 5pm the green car i think cec was still going round not sure 100% though.

cheers
Sean

mandbsheldon - 16/10/06 at 05:43 PM

Thanks Sean,
Your car looked great by the way. I had a go in your brothers car and that went rearly well. No need to thrash when it goes like that

Leigh

Sorry, haven't been paying attention. I was only teasing...! I'm delighted that you had such a good time. We had a great day, bit on the telly, some new customers and Brands is always a fabulous track to drive.

Andy Bates is sorting the engine in the white one after it went BANG tinkle tinkle... that's the press car as reviewed by EVO, Pistonheads, AUTOCAR etc so I think we've demonstrated just how far you can go with a standard fireblade lump. In the last five months it's done 65 days on track, most with passengers, all at ten tenths, so credit to AB Performance is deserved.

It's the good thing about BECs, when the unthinkable happens replacement engine and boxes are cheap, and easy to replace.

The Duratec - (green one) was mighty around Brands, and was chasing that ridiculously fast new Westfield around.
