bob - 5/9/04 at 08:46 PM

Yup i'm up for it

matt_claydon - 5/9/04 at 09:05 PM

I should be there. Will be going to Beaulieu autojumble on the Saturday, so if anyone who'll be at Newlands wants me to look out for something, let me know.

Chers,
Matt.

James - 6/9/04 at 07:14 AM

Should be there.

Dave,
Is your rad solid mounted to the chassis? Only ask as my Micra rad currently has rubber bushes supporting it but the mount is in the way of the nosecone. The alternative mount won't be rubber. Just wondering if that's ok?

Cheers,

James

ned - 6/9/04 at 08:52 AM

Dave,

age old question; what age polo/part no. and how much and where did you get it from?

thanking you

might have to give newlands a miss as haven't seen er in doors for 3 weekends and am oaway week after next. she's getting a bit annoyed

Ned.

edit: seen your other thread, but where did you get it and how much $$

[Edited on 6/9/04 by ned]

Surrey Dave - 6/9/04 at 10:25 AM

James - the lower mounts are two plastic spikes that go through the mild steel strip ,these are sitting on rubber ( tap washers) , the top 6mm bolt mounting are solid. my old #escort rad was bolted solid to the chassis ,no problems.......

Ned - Rad came from Unipart /Serck Intertruck at Crawley , price = £47.00 inc VAT , you can find it cheaper but then you have to pay postage...........

[Edited on 6/9/04 by Surrey Dave]

ned - 6/9/04 at 10:48 AM

thanks Dave..

being a lazy ba****d I rang my local auto factors in guildford.

camberly auto factors came out cheapest at £51.33 inc vat. It'll be ready for me to collect from this afternoon

James - if you change your mind from the micra rad it's only just up the road for you

Ned.

ps: Dave, did it come with a fan or did you use the old escort one you had?

Jasper - 6/9/04 at 11:43 AM

Sorry chaps, still gonna be in the good old US of A.

Currently driving a people carrier rental around - with a 4.2L engine under the bonnet! - gotta love these yanks!

£42.95+ (£50.47) from German Swedish and French.

And there's a Camberley Auto Factors in Guildford!
Open Saturday till 4pm (I think).

James

ned - 6/9/04 at 12:08 PM

James,

who/where is german,swedish&french?

i mean CAF in guildford, what do you mean?

Ned.

James - 6/9/04 at 12:17 PM

GSF, absolutely fantastic car parts place:

Essential for Veedub owners!
http://www.gsfcarparts.com/
Nearest one to Guidlford is Badshot Lee (Aldershot).

Assumed you meant the CAF "up the road from me" in Camberley/Northcamp as I'm in Farnborough at work right now.

... it was noon in Locostland, and confusion reigned!

Having just looked up motor factors in guildford ther are far more than i knew about (a.r.e and CAF) who are the people opposite b&q as you go over the bridge on the left? is that where partco is? ever used them? Bit late now to bother ringing them as I've already ordered/paid for the rad, but useful for future ref..

Ned.

Surrey Dave - 6/9/04 at 02:08 PM

Ned - The fan came from a Renault 21 diesel ,there where 2 so I have an identical spare, I have a sierra fan that I was gonna use but it sounded a bit whiney, the fan I had on the Escort rad was a small shrouded motorcycle one , not really sure if it was up to the job..........

[Edited on 6/9/04 by Surrey Dave]

ned - 6/9/04 at 02:18 PM

Dave,

It looks very slim, any chance you might be persuaded to part with the spare one? if not i'll have to go have a dig round the scrappy..

I think the micra one is quite deep and much smaller diameter..

Ned.

Yeah, Partco over road from B&Q.

I bought my Sierra handbrake cable from them, that's all. Seem OK.

I go to GSF for VW stuff as they have most stuff and it's pretty good. (Although I saw something on telly that said some parts were pattern.)

For the Locost it's CAF for price (but Northcamp branch is staffed by tossers and there's often a long queue.
Guildford seems alright but it's much smaller.
ARE run by nice people but sometimes more pricey and it's miles from work.

Maybe I'll go with a Polo too now- it looks quite sexy!

I get a discount at CAF too!

James

bob - 6/9/04 at 06:17 PM

James

Whats the part number for the polo rad from gsf ? i've got a depot just up the road from me.

Also does the bottom hose come out on the oposite corner to the top hose ?

James - 7/9/04 at 08:43 AM

I didn't ask them for the part number- sorry. It wasn't the same as Surrey Dave's number.

Martin (ex-mechanic who works there) reckoned it would be the '94 version as they changed around this time.

Just to complicate things!

Anyway Bob, what's wrong with your rad? I don't think a new rad will stop pinking!

James

bob - 7/9/04 at 10:54 AM

Its leaking again

ned - 7/9/04 at 11:18 AM

poor bob CAF said it was the same part no as serk on their system, don't know who the supplier is though.

Special request/favour
Is anyone in the croyden area able to go to ducati london south (purley way cresent) for a pair of late ducati monster indicators for me? (same as fozzie's!) I can't very easily get there when they're open and nowhere else seems to sell them. they are in stock and are £20.99 pair for front 2001 onwards indicators(oval lesnse with longer stems than the rears) I can give money to James to pass on if I don't make newlands.. and of course i will be owing anyone that can help a tea/bacon roll

cheers all,

Ned.

ps, piccy:

bob - 7/9/04 at 01:58 PM

https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/results.asp

GSF give 3 part numbers for polo rads in the 40 quid range, mentions 380mm and 430mm

ned - 7/9/04 at 02:09 PM

it has to be 17322, 17322a or 17323 is this what you've narrowed it down to bob? my educated guess would be the 17323 one, it is 430mm (daves is 480mm overall, allowing for 25mm of plastic ends either side) and it is the right date range - 83-90. go and havea look if they've got one in stock, it'll probably be quite apparent which one you want when it's infront of you!

Ned.

bob - 7/9/04 at 02:28 PM

Ned

I agrre i've narrowed it down to the polo rad 17323 and the golf MK1/2 rad which is for 1.6/1.8 17333 which is the same price.
I have heard the westfield track boys use a golf rad so i wonder if its 17333 ?

ned - 7/9/04 at 02:33 PM

your guess is as good as mine mate! I should be picking mine up sat morning, so if you want me to measure anything, take any more pics etc let me know. I'll look out for another part number that might look familiar..!

Ned.

bob - 7/9/04 at 02:37 PM

Cheers ned

I had all the dimensions and part numbers from all the suppliers when i did my homework on this a couple of years back, zetec(kevin)gave a lot of advice too.

Unfortunatly its all on my old PC Doh!!!!

bob - 7/9/04 at 03:00 PM

Just checked out some other peoples rads on here in the search,17323 looks good and its £45.82 with the VAT on

Surrey Dave - 7/9/04 at 04:24 PM

Blimey I didn't know I was going to cause all this trouble fitting my Rad!

Is the golf one not a double cored rad?

Should be able to tell that from the price.......

Surrey Dave - 7/9/04 at 04:40 PM

THE CORE IS : 322mm high X 380mm wide Rescued attachment Polo Rad 03 dimssml.jpg

matt_claydon - 9/9/04 at 09:08 PM

Adam,

Here's a link to a couple of maps:

HTH,
Matt.

James - 10/9/04 at 12:33 PM

Blimey! I'd forgotten how helpful I could be!

Adam,
We meet from 9.30-10am till about 12. If the weather's dry in the car park with the bikers. If it's wet then over the other side of the road is a cafe that I guess would be better.

Surrey Dave - 11/9/04 at 07:56 AM

That's only money! , it can't beat the pleasure of a 'Locost' on the open road.............

bob - 11/9/04 at 05:52 PM

Yes dave but i also need some bits and the cash will come in handy for the winter projects

phelpsa - 11/9/04 at 07:48 PM

Maybe another day (when I haven't been playing football all the previous day), Getting out of bed tomorrow in time to get there would be a s***, which weekends does it happen??

Adam

matt_claydon - 11/9/04 at 09:34 PM

Officially, first Sunday of the month, but it would seem the hardcore make some kind of meet pretty much every week!

BMF - 14/9/04 at 01:30 PM

Dave

Have just bought one of these rads from GSF.

What is the brass hole mid way down for? I assume for the header tank? Where did you get a fitting for it?

Cheers Ben

BMF - 14/9/04 at 02:18 PM

I have bought 17323, but it does not look like Daves.

It has open fins at the top and bottom whereas Daves has plates.

Anyone know which one I should have bought?

ned - 14/9/04 at 02:29 PM

mine is different to daves, has fine ally fins all over, but held it up and it is dimensionally the same. we recon'd it was due to them being pattern parts from different suppliers, same size etc, but different in construction..

the hole half way down on one side is for a rad fan sensor i think...
there is a small nipple type outlet at the top which could go to a header or water bottle..

Ned.

ps i'm just off the aldershot road if you want to come over and compare..!

[Edited on 14/9/04 by ned]

BMF - 14/9/04 at 02:52 PM

Ned that is exactly the same as mine.

Still not sure on this brass connection though!

[Edited on 14/9/04 by BMF]

ned - 14/9/04 at 03:35 PM

post us a pic?

BMF - 14/9/04 at 03:41 PM

Could do if I hadn't lent my camera to my brother.

It has to be the same as yours though with a small (5mm) tube poking out at 90 degrees, with a inlet below that.

Mine is made by BEHR

ned - 14/9/04 at 03:49 PM
