Sam's Detling review
aerosam - 14/4/09 at 07:58 PM

Just got back now, stayed overnight in a B&B and spent today in Thorpe Park scaring myself silly on big rollercoasters.

I went Monday, as it was my first kit car show, I must admit I was a little disappointed. I was expecting it to be bigger.

The missis and I walked all round it slowly, twice, in 2 and a half hours. I went armed with folding dosh looking to pick up loads of parts, in the end all I bought was a set of rear lights from GBS.

I was expecting far more parts stalls, although yes there were a good number of stalls selling generic nic-nacs, the manufacturers wer only interested in selling turnkey cars.

In fact, I wandered past the vindicator stand, and simply pointed out the differences between their sprint model and many seven replicas to the wife, and ended up getting invited to a track day to try one out! (if she hadn't been with me I would have bitten his arm off.)

I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting.

One big plus of the day was after the show, relaxing in the local B&B, looking out the window and see the Rayvolution being carefuly reversed through the gates on a trailer. Later took the opportunity to have a poke around it without the obligatory sales pitch in my ear. It looks like heck of a lot of work has gone into it and it's very well built. I resisted the urge to ask the French lads if it could be fitted with a car engine!

One thing I did take away from the show was INSPIRATION, it's the first time I have seen so many kit cars of so many different origins in one place. In fact I had a couple of ideas on the long drive home and I've already been in the garage trying them out. (none were any good btw). I will be spending more time up there now, getting on with it pronto!

All the best,

Sam

I was expecting a bit more to be there too. But as the weather was forecast to be grim i think most people stayed at home.

If it was your first ever kit car show then it would have been a bit disapointing i would have thought.. Get yourself to Stoneleigh you wont be disapointed with that one.

Me and the missus got there about half 11 12 ish and left about 4 having went round twice and watched the motorbike stunt geezer riding at some blokes backside!

Overall i didnt think it was too bad but roll on Stoneleigh..

I'm gutted I'm going to miss Stoneleigh, but as I'm going to be on holiday in Turkey it's not all bad.

Managed to snap the Rayvo with my phone before I left this morning: Rescued attachment raysmall.jpg

That's John Butler for you. A very enthusiastic bloke particularly where his product is concerned and always prepared to listen to anything. One of Johns favourite sayings is " The answer is yes. Now whats the question?" the unspoken bit is "how deep are your pockets?"

When I first encountered john it was about 5 years ago and we started chucking around the idea of a 4 seat "sporty" kit car, having 2 young children, and admittedly I was looking at a Shadow 4 seater things didnt pan out that way and eventually about 3 years ago the Sprint Family was born. I bought a kit just over 2 years ago and have SVA on 23rd April.

ETA sorry no thread Hijack intended
