Hi all
I am just about to start building a car with the intention of sprinting and then possibly entering the 750MC
I have read lots of posts and the blue book and still a bit confussed.
can I bend the front legs of the cage or do they have to be straight,
what above the roof bars can they be bent as per the bar below
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c156/gavin174/kitcar/bodywork45.jpg
could someone please do a drawing of what I can do...
chassis is nearly finished so looking to do the cage start of next week.
thanks Gavin
I think it says it all in the rollcage thread here:

Its clear in the blue book you are allowed 1 bend in the front loop (or lateral bars if constructed in that way) as per this guidance in the blue
book.
8. The front leg of a front or lateral rollbar must be
straight, or if this is not possible, must follow the
windscreen pillars and have only one bend with its
lower vertical part. Where the main rollbar forms the
rear legs of a lateral rollbar (see illustration Appendix 2,
drawing 6), the connection to the lateral rollbar must be
at roof level.
IMO, as there is no reason why they cant be straight on a 7 type car (no dash or pillars to get in the way really) so having them straight would be
the easiest way to ensure compliance.
As for the connecting bars:
Diagram 53 (below) in the book shows that they can be bent but does not mention as to what extent:

Matt (procomps) (or resident cage expert?) general view is that the cages should be built exactly as the diagrams, with little or no deviation. Im of
the opinion (baring in mind I have little/no racing or scrutineering experience!) that if the drawing states they can be straight or bent and doesnt
state by how much or how little, then you have a fairly reasonable argument that as long as you dont take the piss, they will comply. The items you
pictutred look to be pretty much as the diagram and therefore should comply with no problems.

Somewhere in the regs it gives a max angle for 'kinks' or bends in the legs. Don't know it off the top of my head.
FIA Roll Cage Data is available online, look in Appendix J.
Cheers,
