Winter modifications

Just finished my winter modifications, MK INDY C20XE.

full respray Gulf racing colours

New secondhand nosecone ( thanks Hellfire) and bike style indicators

new dash

new smiths telemetrix clocks

R1 carb conversion (using bogg brothers manifold)

carbon mods stone guards

Car will be going to le mans this year, hence the colour scheme.
will also be at Stoneleigh this weekend. Just a few bits to finish off and it will be ready.

Yes Mike weather permitting, car will be at the church mouse.
Resprayed in my single garage over the last three weeks, Very pleased with the results, not perfect but not at all bad , didn't have a drip of paint left, wish I had ordered more, as I would liked more coats on the rear arches etc.

I'm no expert at spraying, having only sprayed an old fiesta once and a few panels over the years, But anyone wanting a go shouldn't be put off. I used cellulose paint.
Preparation is the key, rubbing down between primer coats and colour coats, I used anti bloom thinners, then for the final colour coats high gloss thinners, you shouldn't need to buff up to a shine but any patchy areas just t-cut and polish.
the last coat on was thinned down a bit more about 70%, I tested on the garage wall before attacking the car
Make sure your garage is spotless, hoover the floor and get rid of the dust, I still got dust and the odd bug in the paintwork.
And make sure you have enough paint, I sprayed the indy with 2 litres of powder blue and 1 litre of orange. I used every drop and ideally could have done with a bit more.
It's cost me £178 to spray that included, a new spray gun, all the thinners, primer, masking, abrasives, paint, Gulf logos, pinstripes, and a fibreglass repair kit for some small bits of damage.
I only have a 1.5hp compressor, but was adequate, buy a spray gun to suit your output , and keep the pressure around 40 - 50psi.
This worked for me, as I say I'm no expert, Experiment on an old panel or even the garage wall, to get a good consistent spray, and try lay it on even.

i managed to spray my chassis myself, dont fancy doing another there are too many little nooks to get into,
looks like i have no excuse now for not getting it painted up bright yellow
unless the dvla get my paperwork here pronto then i'll be too busy wasting petrol

Graham, i think your car is stunning. It did look special in the sun at the church mouse.

When i ordered my MNR i asked for it in blue, then i was going for blue with orange arches and then i said bugger it ill have orange and sticker it up when its finished- but last year relised stickers would cost £250 but after seeing your finished job it might be easier to paint the car it looked really really nice.

Dont know if i could paint it my self though.
