A piece of 6mm ally is in the shed cut to size if the bounce is too much
I have been looking at fitting a camera to my car so tonight went out to see what I could do and came up with this.

Just need to test it now.
It will only be holding an Olympus 850sw so should be strong enough.

It's a fair point. I believe the camera mount has to be as rigid as possible.

why dont you just buy a camera mount that clamps to round bar and clamp it to the bit of tube just above that spring board you fitted between the harness mounts.

Sorry, i had to. A bigger boy made me do it then ran away. 
Just glue some 'T' section ally to the underside of it, it will be fine.
Why spend money when I have a perfectly good solution free of cost in the shed?

They are right. I tried to make a mount for the same position out of the 2 CF sill covers that came free with my screen by riveting them into a box
section. Even with small piece of wood inside to to stiffen it it was quite bouncy. No worse than my old tin top headrest hague mount but still no
where near as good as my hague sucker mount was. Shame it wont stick to the bodywork

Of course you ideally want a bit of bounce to prevent vibrations travelling to the camera and making it all shaky.
As long as you worked out the natural resonant frequency of the piece before you made it job's a good 'un
Looks trick but I suspect it might need a bit of angle adding!! A nice ali T beam from B+Q would do the trick nicely. Epoxy it onto the underside and

Do I recognise that CF?!
I mounted mine on a simple aluminium plate like this - but have since raised it another 12mm to get a better view over the screen. It works like a
treat and cost nothing but scraps. I use a bolt from underneath into the standard mount point, plus a pin into an existing hole in the camera. Add a
couple of wraps of silver tape to be sure, and one layer of tape over the microphone to blanket out most of the wind noise :-
Ideally you want a gyro
Springs whilst providing a damper, won't help with optical images - they will definitely transmit vibration.

I think it's now sorted I have put 2 spacers below where the camera will sit so it wont bounce any more.
Will try to get a test vid done asap and get it up on you tube.
How is the Golf comming along Jimbob?
Slow, bare shell at the mo, bit more welding before paint. 20V turbo engine sat along side waiting....
