Trip to Cornwall
JAG - 20/6/05 at 03:35 PM

Hi everyone,

well my car has now been on the road since 23rd March and I have covered some 1400 miles. So I thought it was time to take on a big road trip.

Next Sunday morning I will be departing North Warwickshire to visit my wifes family in Cornwall some 240 miles away. That's if I go M5 then A30 - which I won't be

I have tyre weld and a fire extinguisher but;

Can anyone suggest any reasonable precautions or checks that I should take before departing?

I'm off to sunny Perranporth near Newquay.

I haven't sorted a route yet but will sort it out later this week.

AA - Yup, I'd almost forgotten I was a member. Never used 'em for the tintop.

Suntan cream and hat - check.

Earplugs (good idea) - check

if you have the time, try the coast road from barnstaple down, (its called atlantic highway i think) brilliant bit of road and you'll avoid the traffic jams around goss moor (bodmin). as mark allinson has said before, the coast road from St.Ives to penzance via lands end is a another terrific bit of road if you get that far down. if you do have problems i'm in redruth, about 8 miles from perranporth, your welcome to my telephone number

Wow, Justin, I didn't know you meant you were going in the Locost!! Excellent!

Routine things to check or do:

- weather forecast
- BIG umbrella and some waterproofs.
- add some strategic metal to your front wingstays
- decent throttle return spring
- fuel can??
- tool kit with tyre pressure gauge gaffer tape, cable ties, spare accelerator cable, spare return spring, fuses and bulbs.
- mobile phone and AA card (recovery not just roadside assistance.)
- some suitable goggles for you and your passenger.
- a spare hat or two.
- fluid levels.
- digital camera and or camcorder
- a rucsack to carry valuables in when you leave the car parked up.

Have a great trip and post us some pics!!

Dave

I made it!!

Got there and back (600 miles in all) with out anything breaking or falling off the car.

Weather was 'ok' for the journey down and whilst there but it pi55ed down on the way home. I spent about 2 hours sitting on the side of main roads under a Golf 'brolly

Never mind - it was great fun and I'll definitely be doing that again. Here's a couple of pictures (see next post).
